From the Window

A snapshot from my old room in Paris, on Boulevard Auguste-Blanqui.  Every morning when I got up, I looked out from the terrace to see the Suze sign.  I just loved seeing it. That’s what gave me the idea for the details of this scene from Paris Red, where Victorine looks out the window of her new room:

“There’s a window you can actually see out, across the courtyard to another building whose whole side is painted white with HERBORISTE in black letters. I do not know why but I like to see the sign.  It is the first thing I check for in the morning and one of the last things I see before I sleep.”
